  • Habitat

    Where do I live?

The only remaining giant panda habitat is on the mountainous eastern edge of west China. I like roaming on the ground!

    What do I need?

The giant panda’s habitat once spread across central, southern, and eastern China, and China’s neighboring countries of Myanmar and northern Vietnam. But it has been dramatically reduced by the growth in people's logging and farming practices.

  • Anatomy

This is what I look like!

The Giant Panda is a medium to large sized bear that like other species has a large head, short tail and a long muzzle with a large nose. I breathe with my lungs just like humans!

I am 1.2 to 1.9 meters long and can weigh up to 350 lbs!

I am unique! I have black fur around my eyes like 2 pirate patches.

I can live a long time - 20 years in the wild and up to 30 in captivity! Come visit me in the zoo!

  • Reproduction

    My Gestation Period

Giant pandas reach sexual maturity at 5.5 to 6.5 years. Gestation takes from 95-160 days. The mating season is in spring between March and May.

    One sometimes two cubs!

Pandas normally give birth to single young. Twins seem to be born more frequently in captivity, when artificial insemination is used.
